Happy St. Casimir Day!
Hello all!
A long time between posts, but I am truly swamped with tasks and chores.
Today, March 4, is the feast of St. Casimir on the Roman Church calendar. Casimir was a Lithuanian prince in the 1400's who was named the major patron of Lithuania. Poland also claims him as a patron and as a native son, but Casimir has no Polish blood in his veins. His father was pure Lithuanian stock and his mother was Austrian.
He is also patron of the charitable organization of which I am president--The St. Casimir Guild for the Pontifical Lithuanian College in Rome.
Son don you yellow, green and red today! Eat some pickled herring and saltabarsciai (or siltabarsciai, depending on your weather)!!
Here are two prayers in honor of our patron:
O God, who amidst the delights of royalty and the blandishments of the world, did strengthen holy Casimir with the virtue of constancy, grant we beseeach Thee, that by his intercession Thy faithful may despise earthly things, and ever aspire those of heaven. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Sventasis Kazimierai, didis dangaus Karalienes, Svenciausiosios Marijos garbintojau, daug kartu parodes ypatinga globa savo Tevynei, teikis, meldziame, ja globoti ir visuose reikaluose jai padeti. Amen.
